Link a LinkedIn Page to the Experience on Your LinkedIn Profile (with Screenshots)

,

·

Ever noticed a grey building icon next to a job on someone’s LinkedIn profile instead of a company logo? That grey building means the role is not connected to the company’s LinkedIn Page. When the role is connected properly, the company logo appears instead, and anyone viewing the profile can click straight through to the company Page. It looks more professional, it helps your Page get found, and it takes about two minutes to fix.

Overview of the process

  • Check your Experience section for grey building icons
  • Open the role for editing
  • Re-select your company from LinkedIn’s suggestion list, choosing the entry that shows the logo
  • Save and confirm the logo now appears

Step 1: Spot the grey building

Log in to LinkedIn and open your profile, then scroll down to your Experience section. Any role showing the grey building icon is not linked to a LinkedIn Page. A role showing a logo is already connected and needs no changes.

Step 2: Open the role for editing

Click the pencil icon at the top right of the Experience section, then click the pencil next to the role you want to fix. This opens the Edit experience window.

Step 3: Re-select your company from the list

Click into the Company or organization field, delete what is there, and start typing the company name again. After a few letters, LinkedIn shows a list of matching Pages below the field. This is the important part: click the entry that shows the company logo. Typing the name and skipping the list is the most common reason profiles end up with the grey building, because typed text on its own does not create the link.

If you see two similar entries, one with a logo and one with a grey building, always pick the one with the logo. That is the real LinkedIn Page.

Step 4: Save and check

Click Save, then close the editing view and look at your profile. The role should now show the company logo, and clicking the logo or company name will take visitors to the company’s LinkedIn Page.

What if your company doesn’t appear in the list?

If typing the name only brings up grey building entries, the company doesn’t have a LinkedIn Page yet, so there is nothing to link to. You’ll need to create a LinkedIn Page for the business first, then come back and repeat the steps above. If we manage your LinkedIn presence, get in touch and we’ll set the Page up for you.

Best practices

  • Repeat the steps for every role in your Experience that shows a grey building, including past roles where the company has a Page
  • Type the company name exactly as it appears on the LinkedIn Page so the right suggestion comes up
  • Roles listed as Self-employed will keep the grey building unless you create a LinkedIn Page for your business and link to it
  • Your current role’s logo also appears in the intro section at the top of your profile, so linking it correctly tidies up your whole profile in one go
